Luk is the founder of Mynews. He has been actively managing the company since its inception. Lastly, on 30
September 2023, he was appointed to the position of Executive Chairman.
He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Science in Canada. He began his career as an
information technology professional that spanned across Malaysia, Singapore and Canada. Afterwards, in 1996, he took
the entrepreneurial plunge, working with his family to open a small newsstand by the car park in a shopping mall. That small newsstand has now grown into Mynews group owns and operates over 600 retail outlets domestically, including myNEWS, Korea’s CU, the UK’s WH Smith, SUPERVALUE minimart and MARU Coffee. Mynews group has also
diversified into large scale fresh food production and partnered with renowned Japanese businesses to establish the
first state-of-the-art food processing centre of its kind in Malaysia.
Luk, the 2019 EY Entrepreneur of the Year, grew up in a family of rubber tappers in a small village in Perak and attributes his success to his parents' tenacity and their insistence on education. Like his parents, he is passionate about changing lives through education. The CSR program he founded, "Allowances That Allow (ATA)," supports underprivileged students with a monthly allowance in the years leading up to major examinations.
