Nurini binti Kassim, female, a Malaysian aged 62 is our Independent Non-Executive Director. She was appointed to our Board on 14 November 2024. She is also the Chairperson of our Remuneration Committee and a member of our Audit and Risk Management Committee and Nomination Committee.
She graduated from Oxford Brookes University, UK with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Studies and Economics in July 1985 and obtained her Master in Business Administration from the University of Hull, UK in July 1994. She is a Member of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM) since May 2022 and a member of Lead Women since 2023.
She started her career as an Analyst Programmer in Bank Utama (M) Berhad (now part of the RHB Banking Group) from December 1985 to January 1989, tasked with maintaining and updating programmes for the retail banking system. She joined KPMG Peat Marwick Consultants Sdn Bhd as an Associate Consultant in February 1989, where she provided clients with information technology consultancy services. In December 1990, she joined Hewlett Packard (M) Sdn Bhd as a Project Consultant specialising in both pre-sales and post-sales project management services, where she provides technology solutions and support for clients in various industries. She left Hewlett Packard (M) Sdn Bhd in March 1994 and joined Sapura Systems (M) Sdn Bhd in April 1994 as Marketing & Channels Manager where she led the marketing, communications and channel management for the company. From January 1997 to December 1998, she was a Marketing Manager at Informix (M) Sdn Bhd, handling marketing, communications, channel management and business development for Malaysia and Singapore. She joined Edelman PR Malaysia Sdn Bhd in April 1999 until July 2000 as a Director in IT Practice, where she led the sales and business development department in Malaysia.
She joined the SC in August 2000 as Assistant General Manager / Head of Corporate Affairs Department, where she led corporate issues and crisis communications, reputation and event management. In March 2004, she was transferred to the Capital Market Development Fund (“CMDF”) as Head of Secretariat where she in charge of the operations of the CMDF. In July 2009, she was transferred to the Capital Market Promotions Unit as the Head of the unit where she was responsible for engaging with foreign investors and intermediaries and worked closely with Malaysian Islamic Financial Centre. In August 2015, she was transferred as the Head of Islamic Capitals Market Promotions Unit, where she responsible for marketing, promotions and development of the Malaysian Islamic capital market.
In October 2015, she joined the Employees Provident Fund (“EPF”) as General Manager of Corporate Affairs where she led corporate issues and crisis communications, reputation and brand management across EPF, and worked closely with various government bodies such the Prime Minister’s Office of Malaysia, the Ministry of Finance, BNM and other government agencies on financial literacy programmes until December 2018.
She was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the national news agency, Bernama Berhad (“BERNAMA”) in January 2019, overseeing the entire operations comprising of the newsroom, television and radio, while spearheading BERNAMA’s efforts in media convergence, fact checking and combating fake news. She joined Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia”) in July 2020 as Executive Vice President, Group Strategic Communications where she led the corporate issues and crisis communications, reputation and brand management across the Bursa Malaysia group. She left in June 2023 at the point where her contract ended.
She is currently retired and involved in freelance communications and public relations consultancy works where she advises clients on, among others, developing effective communications, marketing and brand strategies in order to build a positive public image. She also provides mentoring and coaching for projects related to youth and young professional development.
