SHARE PRICE & VOLUME PERFORMANCE 2023 witnessed a notable recovery in Bank Islam’s share price. Despite experiencing a 19.0% year-on-year decline, the share price bounced back by 29.2% from its low point of RM1.71 on 9 June, closing the year at RM2.21 on 29 December. This rebound demonstrates the resilience of Bank Islam’s share value. The Bank maintained strong institutional investor backing throughout the year. Notably, the top 30 shareholders held over 85% of shares, signifying stable investor confidence. Additionally, the shareholder base expanded by 37.4%, with a significant portion (35.5%) driven by an increase in retail investors, indicating growing public interest. Furthermore, foreign shareholding rose to 3.2% by the end of December 2023, compared to 1.8% the previous year, reflecting heightened international investor interest in Bank Islam’s shares. Since its listing in October 2021, Bank Islam’s monthly trading volume has remained relatively moderate, typically below 2.5% of total shares. This trend primarily stems from the bank’s shareholding structure. Around 80% of shares are held by institutional investors, leaving only 20% available for public trading. This structure inherently leads to lower trading activity due to the smaller public shareholding spread. This pattern persisted throughout 2023, reflecting the Bank’s stable and institution-heavy shareholder base.
