He began his career in the Ministry of Information as an Assistant Secretary in 1972 before assuming the position of Assistant Administrator of Hospital University in University of Malaya in 1976, Principal Assistant Secretary of the Education Service Commission in 1978, Deputy Director of the Public Service Department in 1985 and Deputy Director General of the National AntiDrug Agency from 1997 to 2001. From 2002 to 2003, he was appointed as the Director General of National Anti-Drug Agency. In 2003, he was promoted as the Director General of the National Registration Department (NRD). He retired from the civil service in 2005 and was appointed as an Advisor to Cito Holdings Sdn Bhd and Dibena Enterprise Sdn Bhd.
