DESTINI Annual Report 2022

Registration No. 200301030845 (633265-K) - 39 - 3. Significant Accounting Policies (Cont’d) (b) Investments in associate and joint venture (Cont’d) An associate or a joint venture is equity accounted for from the date on which the investee becomes an associate or a joint venture. Under the equity method, on initial recognition the investment in an associate is recognised at cost, and the carrying amount is increased or decreased to recognise the Group’s share of profit or loss and other comprehensive income of the associate or joint venture after the date of acquisition. When the Group’s share of losses in an associate or a joint venture equals or exceeds its interest in the associate or joint venture, the Group does not recognise further losses, unless it has incurred legal or constructive obligations or made payments on behalf of the associate or joint venture. Profits or losses resulting from upstream and downstream transactions between the Group and its associate or joint venture are recognised in the Group’s consolidated financial statements only to the extent of unrelated investors’ interests in the associate or joint venture. Unrealised losses are eliminated unless the transaction provides evidence of an impairment of the assets transferred. The financial statements of the associates and joint ventures are prepared as of the same reporting date as the Company. Where necessary, adjustments are made to bring the accounting policies in line with those of the Group. The requirements of MFRS 136 Impairment of Assets are applied to determine whether it is necessary to recognise any additional impairment loss with respect to its net investment in the associate or joint venture. When necessary, the entire carrying amount of the investment is tested for impairment in accordance with MFRS 136 as a single asset, by comparing its recoverable amount (higher of valuein-use and fair value less costs to sell) with its carrying amount. Any impairment loss is recognised in profit or loss. Reversal of an impairment loss is recognised to the extent that the recoverable amount of the investment subsequently increases. Upon loss of significant influence over the associate or joint control over the joint venture, the Group measures and recognises any retained investment at its fair value. Any difference between the carrying amount of the associate or joint venture upon loss of significant influence or joint control and the fair value of the retained investment and proceeds from disposal is recognised in profit or loss. In the Company’s separate financial statements, investments in associates and joint ventures are stated at cost less accumulated impairment losses, if any. On disposal of such investments, the difference between net disposal proceeds and their carrying amounts are recognised in profit or loss. Where an indication of impairment exists, the carrying amount of the investment is assessed and written down immediately to its recoverable amount. See accounting policy Note 3(n)(i) to the financial statements on impairment of non-financial assets. 117 ANNUAL REPORT 2022 DESTINI BERHAD
