My EG Services Berhad Annual Report 2023

96 MY E.G. SERVICES BERHAD Registration No. 200001003034 (505639-K) MATERIALITY MATTERS (cont’d) Recognising the importance of establishing detailed performance targets in catalysing MYEG’s journey towards delivering on its net zero pledge, the Group held a workshop in early 2024 to formulate Targets and KPIs for the short, medium and long terms. These goals not only relate to emissions, but extend to all material ESG aspects of the Group. A summary of these Targets and KPIs is scheduled to be made available by the Group on its website later this year. The Group perceives innovation as pivotal to discovering solutions for decarbonisation. Consequently, there is an intention to harness Web3 technologies as a crucial facilitator in achieving a carbon-free future. This commitment extends beyond the Group’s own businesses, aiming to contribute to the broader national and global efforts towards sustainability. ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION AND RENEWABLE ENERGY Energy data is measured based on the Group’s electricity consumption from the grid, with electricity remaining the primary and most material source in terms of both its cost and environmental impact. Currently, the largest consumers of energy within the Group are its data centres. MYEG has implemented various energy-efficient features in onpremises data centres, focusing on servers and cooling systems to reduce overall energy consumption. Given that electricity is the primary source of energy consumed by MYEG, the Group is dedicated to reducing electricity consumption. MYEG has undertaken a range of measures to drive energy efficiency across the value chain. This involves implementing energy-saving practices among staff, transitioning to LED-based lighting, and more. To develop a comprehensive approach to managing energy consumption, MYEG is exploring the feasibility of adopting an energy management system or energy efficiency standards suitable for its industry and business model. Other methods such as green technology initiatives, corrective maintenance work and thorough monitoring will be taking place to improve electricity consumption for the Group moving forward. The Group has also made use of natural lighting and other energy-efficient methods to help avoid excess carbon being produced. Indirect Energy Consumption (Electricity) (kWh) 2,500,000.00 2,000,000.00 1,500,000.00 1,000,000.00 500,000.00 0.00 3,000,000.00 FY2022 FY2021 FY2023 2,335,472.46 2,797,885.00 2,345,921.90 In FY2023, MYEG’s total electricity consumption was recorded at 2.35 million kWh. MYEG understands the potential renewable energy possesses in contributing towards the fight against climate change. By using renewable energy, it reduces the need for fossil fuels to be burned and released into the atmosphere which reduces climate related impacts. The Group has already been looking into several areas to implement renewable energy initiatives: MYEG’s approach to potentially adopting renewable energy in the future will be consistent to further reduce MYEG’s overall carbon emissions and embed sustainability throughout the organisation.
