ANNUAL REPORT 2023 99 MATERIALITY MATTERS (cont’d) The Group’s Waste Management and Recycling Statement provides more clarity on the initiatives that the Group wishes to develop which include the recycling of materials such as glass, paper and plastic. Data captured on the recycling of waste over the last three years are as below: 70 60 40 50 20 30 10 0 100 40 60 80 20 0 FY2022 86.79 FY2021 10.87 FY2023 10.19 FY2022 60.39 FY2021 1.62 FY2023 2.14 Percentage of Waste Recycled (%) Total Waste Recycled (Tonnes) *The steep rise in waste generated in FY2022 is aligned with increased activity of disposed and recycled MYEG kiosks during FY2022. As the kiosks recycling and disposal programme was completed in the previous year, recycling rates returned to more normal rates in FY2023. MYEG plans to gradually ramp up its recycling activities as well since pandemic restrictions have long been lifted. MYEG has also adopted the practice of sorting items upon the dismantling of sites in Klang Valley, its Head Office and other regional areas to determine which materials could be potentially reused or recycled instead of being labelled as waste. Reusable items, usually furniture and air condition systems, will be collected by the Internal Courier team and sent to HQ for restoration and redeployment. Constant development and evaluation of what initiatives could be implicated take place throughout the year in order for the Group to be more sustainable moving forward. Additionally, MYEG monitors its food waste throughout the office as food is the main contributor to creating these greenhouse gases as they decompose. In order to reduce food waste, food compositing machines could be placed in the office where a limited weight of food waste can be deposited. There are also designated bins for food waste, following a similar idea as that of the recycling initiative. MYEG remains committed towards expanding the Group’s recycling policy and procedures regarding recycling other types of waste, which will be developed and suitably implemented in the future when it is feasible to do so. These may include recovering and recycling equipment and materials related to the Group’s operations. The Group will continue to develop further policies that promote and cascade recycling of waste within the supply chain. E-WASTE As mentioned previously, MYEG operates as an online service provider, relying extensively on the latest technology and robust computer systems to deliver products and services to customers. The dynamic nature of the industry necessitates continuous upgrades to ensure customers receive the best possible experience. Consequently, the disposal of older technology equipment is a regular part of the Group’s operational cycle. Given that improper disposal of these old electronic devices links to the landfills where hazardous components can easily be leaked into the environment, MYEG ensures a structured and responsible disposal of damaged / non-usable electrical and electronic items. For example, parts of an old computer can easily be reused in another appliance instead of being thrown away. develop further policies that promote and cascade recycling of waste within the supply chain SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
