MSTGOLF Integrated Annual Report 2023

53 ANNUAL REPORT 2023 MST GOLF GROUP BERHAD In our quest to embrace the circular economy and reduce packaging waste, we have phased out plastic bags and switched to reusable paper bag usage while encouraging customers to bring their own bags. In 2023, we gave out 53,798 paper bags in Malaysia outlets and 15,395 paper bags in Singapore outlets. 2 Reducing Packaging Waste To promote the habit of “reuse“ among our customers, we also introduced MST Golf’s Bag4Life, a reusable shopping bag. In 2023, we sold 4,991 reusable bags in our Malaysia outlets and 238 pieces in our Singapore outlets. We will continue to encourage customers to bring their own bags whenever they shop with us, further reducing the need for single-use packaging. To further reduce packaging waste and save cost, we implemented new MST Golf product tagging guidelines in November 2023, where we discontinued the use of MST Golf green tags and instead attached a price and barcode sticker directly on the existing brand tags. By eliminating the MST Golf green tags, we are expected to reduce operational costs, save an estimated 500,000 pieces of MST Golf green tags and reduce waste to landfills. Total number of paper bags used In Malaysia outlets 53,798 pcs In Singapore outlets 15,395 pcs Total number of reusable bags sold (Bag4Life) In Malaysia outlets 4,991 pcs In Singapore outlets 238 pcs To raise customer awareness of golf products made with sustainable materials, we highlighted these products in our stores and on our e-commerce website. To safeguard our retail employees’ health and wellbeing, we will conduct regular operational health and safety risk management and encourage them to participate in afterwork programmes and other healthy lifestyle activities. The Group will also improve workplace amenities to support our staff’s daily work. In ensuring that we deliver the Product & Service Beyond Expectations strategy, we are improving our product choices and availability through more effective sourcing and procurement. We will also work to promote more inclusive customer service experiences and provide more meaningful engagement opportunities to facilitate our customers’ interest in golf. For the Sustainable Retail Operations strategy, we will implement circular initiatives to reduce waste, such as proper waste management procedures and modular visual merchandising that encourages reuse. We are also working towards better energy management to reduce our GHG emissions from retail outlets. Finally, we will capitalise on the high traffic footfall at our retail stores to amplify sustainability efforts and impacts by the Group, the golf industry and other counterparts we work with.
