MKH Annual Report 2017
2. BASIS OF PREPARATION OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS (continued) (a) Statement of compliance (continued) (ii) Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (continued) The Group falls within the scope definition of Transitioning Entities and has availed itself of this transitional arrangement and will continue to apply FRSs in the preparation of its financial statements. Accordingly, the Group will be required to apply MFRS 1 First-time adoption of Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards in its financial statements for the financial year ending 30 September 2019, being the first set of financial statements prepared in accordance with new MFRS Framework. The Group is currently assessing the impact of adoption of MFRS 1, including identification of the differences in existing accounting policies as compared to the new MFRSs and the use of optional exemptions as provided for in MFRS 1. At the date of authorisation for issue of these financial statements, accounting policy decisions or elections have not been finalised. Thus, the impact of adopting the new MFRS Framework on the Group’s first set of financial statements prepared in accordance with the MFRS Framework cannot be determined and estimated reliably until the process is complete. (b) Functional and presentation currency The individual financial statements of each entity in the Group are measured using the currency of the primary economic environment in which the entity operates (“the functional currency”). The financial statements of the Group and of the Company are presented in Ringgit Malaysia (“RM”), which is also the Company’s functional currency. All financial information presented in RM has been rounded to the nearest RM, unless otherwise stated. (c) Significant accounting estimates and judgements Significant areas of estimation, uncertainty and critical judgements used in applying accounting principles that have significant effect on the amount recognised in the financial statements are described in the following paragraphs: (i) Revenue and cost of sales recognition (Notes 4 and 5) - the Group recognises property development revenue and the related cost of sales by reference to the stage of completion of the development activity at the reporting date. The stage of completion is determined based on the proportion of development costs incurred for work performed to-date bears to the estimated total property development costs. Significant judgement is required in the estimation of total property development costs. Where the actual total property development costs is different from the estimated total property development costs, such difference will impact the property development profits/(loss) recognised. (ii) Tax expense (Note 8) - significant judgement is required in determining the capital allowances and deductibility of certain expenses when estimating the tax expense. There were transactions during the ordinary course of business for which the ultimate tax determination of whether additional taxes will be due is uncertain. The Group recognises liabilities for tax based on estimates of assessment of the tax liability due. Where the final tax outcome of these matters is different from the amounts that were initially recorded, such differences will impact the current tax and deferred tax in the periods in which the outcome is known.
