MATERIAL ACCOUNTING POLICIES (continued) (g) Intangible assets (continued) (iii) Amortisation Amortisation is calculated based on the cost of an asset less its residual value, adjusted for hyperinflationary effects as described in note 1(b), where applicable. Amortisation is recognised in profit or loss on a straight-line basis over the estimated useful lives of intangible assets from the date that they are available for use. The estimated useful lives for the current and comparative periods are as follows: • Customer relationships 5–20 years • Capitalised development costs 5–10 years • Brand use rights remaining term of the right • Other intangibles 2–10 years Intangible assets with indefinite useful lives and intangible assets not yet available for use are not amortised but are tested for impairment annually and whenever there is an indication that they may be impaired. (h) Investment properties Investment properties which are owned are measured initially at cost, which includes capitalised borrowing costs. Investment properties which are ROU asset held under a lease contract are initially measured similarly as other ROU assets. Subsequent to initial recognition, investment properties are measured at fair value with any changes therein recognised in profit or loss for the period in which they arise. (i) Development properties and inventories Development properties and inventories are measured at the lower of cost and net realisable value, adjusted for hyperinflationary effects as described in note 1(b), where applicable. The cost of inventories is calculated using the weighted average method. ( j) Employee benefits (i) Short-term employee benefits Short-term employee benefit obligations in respect of salaries, annual bonuses, paid annual leave and sick leave are measured on an undiscounted basis and are expensed as the related service is provided. A liability is recognised for the amount expected to be paid under short-term cash bonus if the Group has a present legal or constructive obligation to pay this amount as a result of past service provided by the employee and the obligation can be estimated reliably. The Group’s contributions to defined contribution plans are expensed as the related service is provided by the employee. (ii) Share-based payment transactions The grant date fair value of share-based payment granted to employees is recognised as an employee expense, with a corresponding increase share option reserve in equity, over the vesting period of the awards. The amount recognised as an expense is adjusted to reflect the number of awards for which the related service and non-market vesting conditions are expected to be met, such that the amount ultimately recognised as an expense is based on the number of awards that meet the related service and non-market performance conditions at the vesting date. The fair value of the employee share options is measured using the trinomial option pricing model. Measurement inputs include share price on measurement date, exercise price of the instrument, expected volatility (based on weighted average historic volatility adjusted for changes expected due to publicly available information), weighted average cost of capital, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortisation, exchange differences and other non-operational items (“EBITDA”) multiples, expected dividends, and the risk-free interest rate (based on government bonds).
