Dagang NeXchange Berhad Annual Report 2022

GHG EMISSIONS As a growing player in resource industries such as energy extraction and manufacturing, it is incumbent upon us to take the lead in adopting climate-friendly policies and ways of working, starting with reducing the Greenhouse Gas (“GHG”) emissions that our operations produce. Doing so will contribute to the Paris Agreement goal of keeping the rise in global temperature above pre-industrial levels to 2 degrees Celsius, and thereby avoiding the worst impacts of climate change. Failure to act on this critical issue would not only inflict further damage on our planet, but severely damage our reputation amongst our stakeholders and put us at risk of being non-aligned to national aspirations and future regulations. On the other hand, proactive and positive climate action policies have the potential to elevate our standing within our respective industries – thereby increasing our appeal to investors – and drive innovation and new product development across the Group. Our response has been unequivocal and is epitomised by our commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. This ambition is in line with the recommendations of various regulatory and advisory bodies across our industries. To get there, we aspire to adopt a holistic approach to emissions that spans the entire value chain, supplementing the increasing use of energy-efficiency technologies with long-term collaborations to reduce emissions across our value chain, and investments in carbon removal technologies to benefit society at large. The very first step to reaching our net-zero goal is implementing better and more complete carbon accounting processes. Starting in FY2022, we will undertake full and annual inventories of our Scope 1 emissions, which will be added to our existing inventories of Scope 2 emissions to provide a full picture of our direct emissions. We then intend to take stock of all Scope 3 emissions by assessing our supply chain. The end goals of these undertakings will be to develop a pathway to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and become a net-zero company across all emissions sources by 2050. ENV IRONMENTAL Environmental issues are among the most urgent and pressing today, with climate change requiring no less than intergovernmental collaboration and commitment to mitigate. Beyond climate change, there are increasing concerns about the sustainability of natural resources; and potential damage to ecosystems due to excess waste. These are some of the issues that DNeX is focusing on as we strengthen our environmental stewardship. As an environmentallyconscious organisation, DNeX seeks to ensure that we minimise any negative impact that our operations may have on the environment.
