3. Significant Accounting Policies (Cont’d) (g) Financial assets (Cont’d) (c) Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss (Cont’d) All financial assets, except for those measured at FVTPL and equity investments measured at FVOCI, are subject to impairment. Regular way purchases or sales are purchases or sales of financial assets that require delivery of assets within the period generally established by regulation or convention in the marketplace concerned. All regular way purchases and sales of financial assets are recognised or derecognised on the trade date i.e. the date that the Group and the Company commit to purchase or sell the asset. A financial asset is derecognised where the contractual right to receive cash flows from the asset has expired. On derecognition of a financial asset in its entirety, the difference between the carrying amount and the sum of the consideration received for financial instrument is recognised in profit or loss. Policy applicable before 1 January 2018 Financial assets are recognised on the statements of financial position when, and only when, the Group and the Company become a party to the contractual provisions of the financial instrument. Financial assets are initially recognised at fair value plus transaction costs except for financial assets at fair value through profit or loss, which are recognised at fair value. Transaction costs for financial assets at fair value through profit or loss are recognised immediately in profit or loss. The Group and the Company classify their financial assets depends on the purpose for which the financial assets were acquired at initial recognition, into the following categories: (i) Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss include financial assets held for trading, contingent consideration in a business combination or financial assets that are designated into this category upon initial recognition. A financial asset is classified in this category if it is acquired principally for the purpose of selling it in the near term. Derivatives, including separated embedded derivatives, are also categorised as held for trading unless they are designated as effective hedging instruments. Assets in this category are classified as current assets if expected to be settled within 12 months, otherwise they are classified as non-current. After initial recognition, financial assets in this category are measured at fair value with any gains or losses arising from changes in the fair values recognised in profit or loss in the period in which the changes arise. Derivatives embedded in host contracts are accounted for as separate derivatives and recorded at fair value if their economic characteristics and risks are not closely related to those of the host contracts and the host contracts are not held for trading or designated at fair value through profit or loss. These embedded derivatives are measured at fair value with changes in fair value recognised in profit or loss. Reassessment only occurs if there is either a change in the terms of the contract that significantly modifies the cash flows that would otherwise be required or a reclassification of a financial asset out of the fair value through profit or loss.
