DESTINI Annual Report 2018

2. Basis of Preparation (Cont’d) (c) Significant accounting judgments, estimates and assumptions (Cont’d) Key sources of estimation uncertainty The key assumptions concerning the future and other key sources of estimation uncertainty at the end of the reporting period, that have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities within the next reporting period are set out below: Useful lives of property, plant and equipment The Group regularly review the estimated useful lives of property, plant and equipment based on factors such as business plan and strategies, expected level of usage and future technological developments. Future results of operations could be materially affected by changes in these estimates brought about by changes in the factors mentioned above. A reduction in the estimated useful lives of property, plant and equipment would increase the recorded depreciation and decrease the value of property, plant and equipment. The carrying amounts at the reporting date for property, plant and equipment are disclosed in Note 4. Impairment of goodwill on consolidation The Group determines whether goodwill is impaired at least on an annual basis. This requires an estimation of the value-in-use of the cash-generating units to which the goodwill is allocated. Estimating the value-in-use amount requires the Group to make an estimate of the expected future cash flows from the cash-generating unit and also to choose a suitable discount rate in order to calculate the present value of those cash flows. The key assumptions used to determine the value-in-use is disclosed in Note 9. Inventories valuation Inventories are measured at the lower of cost and net realisable value. The Group estimates the net realisable value of inventories based on an assessment of expected sales prices. Demand levels and pricing competition could change from time to time. If such factors result in an adverse effect on the Group’s products, the Group might be required to reduce the value of its inventories. Details of inventories are disclosed in Note 13. Determination of transaction prices The Group is required to determine the transaction price in respect of each of its contracts with customers. In making such judgment the Group assesses the impact of any variable consideration in the contract, due to discounts or penalties, the existence of any significant financing component and any non-cash consideration in the contract. There is no estimation required in determining the transaction price, as revenue from sale of goods or services are based on invoiced values. Discounts are not considered as they are not only given in rare circumstances. Impairment of receivables The Group review the recoverability of its receivables, include trade and other receivables, amounts due from subsidiaries at each reporting date to assess whether an impairment loss should be recognised. The impairment provisions for receivables are based on assumptions about risk of default and expected loss rates. The Group uses judgement in making these assumptions and selecting the inputs to the impairment calculation, based on the Group’s past history, existing market conditions at the end of each reporting period. The carrying amounts at the reporting date for receivables are disclosed in Notes 11, 15, 16 and 17 respectively. DESTINI BERHAD ANNUAL REPORT 2018 115
