AL-SALAM REIT ANNUAL REPORT 2018

AL-SALĀM REIT ANNUAL REPORT 2018 120 Income Taxes Income tax expense represents the sum of the tax currently payable and deferred tax. (a) Current Tax Tax currently payable is based on taxable proit for the period. Taxable proit difers from proit as reported in proit or loss because of items of income or expense that are taxable or deductible in other years and items that are never taxable or deductible. The Group’s and the Fund’s liability for current tax is calculated using tax rates that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the end of the reporting period. In accordance with Section 61A(1) of the Income Tax Act 1967, the total income of the Fund will be exempted from income tax provided that at least 90% of the total taxable income of the Fund is distributed to unit holders within two months from the end of the inancial year. (b) Deferred Tax Deferred tax is recognised on temporary diferences between the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities in the inancial statements and the corresponding tax bases used in the computation of taxable proit. Deferred tax liabilities are generally recognised for all taxable temporary diferences. Deferred tax assets are generally recognised for all deductible temporary diferences, unused tax losses and unused tax credits to the extent that it is probable that future taxable proits will be available against which those deductible temporary diferences, unused tax losses and unused tax credits can be utilised. The carrying amount of deferred tax assets, if any, is reviewed at the end of each reporting period and reduced to the extent that it is no longer probable that suicient taxable proits will be available to allow all or part of the asset to be recovered. Deferred tax assets and liabilities are measured at the tax rates that are expected to apply in the period in which the liability is settled or the asset realised, based on tax rates (and tax laws) that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the end of the reporting period. The measurement of deferred tax liabilities and assets relects the tax consequences that would follow from the manner in which the Group and the Fund expect, at the end of the reporting period, to recover or settle the carrying amount of their assets and liabilities. Deferred tax assets and liabilities are ofset when there is a legally enforceable right to set of current tax assets against current tax liabilities and when they relate to income taxes levied by the same taxation authority and the Group and the Fund intend to settle their current tax assets and liabilities on a net basis. For the purpose of measuring deferred tax liabilities and deferred tax assets for investment properties that are measured using fair value model, the carrying amounts of such properties are presumed to be recovered entirely through sale, unless the presumption is rebutted. The presumption is rebutted when the investment property is depreciable and is held within a business model whose objective is to consume substantially all the economic beneits embodied in the investment property over time, rather than through sale. The Manager reviewed that the Group’s and the Fund’s investment property portfolios and concluded that all of the Group’s and the Fund’s investment properties are held under a business model whose objective is to consume substantially all the economic beneits embodied in the investment properties over time, rather than through sale. Therefore, the Manager has determined that the “sale” presumption set out in the amendments to MFRS 112 is rebutted. As a result, the Group and the Fund have recognised deferred taxes on changes in fair value of the investment properties using the tax rates that would apply on the consumption of the economic beneits embodied in the investment properties over time. In accordance with Section 61A(1) of the Income Tax Act 1967, the total income of the Fund will be exempted from income tax provided that at least 90% of the total taxable income of the Fund is distributed to unit holders within two months from the end of the inancial year.
