MISC - Annual Report 2014

MISC BERHAD - Annual Report 2014 p 168 2. Significant accounting policies (cont’d.) 2.3 Summary of significant accounting policies (cont’d.) (c) Joint arrangements (cont’d.) (i) Joint ventures (cont’d.) The most recent available audited financial statements of the joint ventures are used by the Group in applying the equity method. Where the dates of the audited financial statements used are not coterminous with those of the Group, the share of results is arrived at from the last audited financial statements available and management financial statements to the end of the accounting year. Uniform accounting policies are adopted for like transactions and events in similar circumstances. On disposal of joint ventures, the difference between net disposal proceeds and their carrying amounts is included in the income statement. In the Corporation’s separate financial statements, investments in joint ventures are stated at cost less impairment losses. On disposal of such investments, the difference between net disposal proceeds and their carrying amounts is included in the income statement. (ii) Joint operations A joint operation is a joint arrangement whereby the parties that have joint control of the arrangement have rights to the assets and obligations for the liabilities relating to the arrangement. Joint control is the contractually agreed sharing of control of an arrangement, which exists only when decisions about the relevant activities require the unanimous consent of the parties sharing control. The Group as a joint operator recognises in relation to its interest in a joint operation: (i) its assets, including its share of any assets held jointly; (ii) its liabilities, including its share of any liabilities incurred jointly; (iii) its revenue from the sale of its share of the output arising from the joint operation; (iv) its share of the revenue from the sale of the output by the joint operation; and (v) its expenses, including its share of any expenses incurred jointly. The Group accounts for the assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses relating to its interest in a joint operation in accordance with the MFRSs applicable to the particular assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses. Profits and losses resulting from transactions between the Group and its joint operation are recognised in the Group’s financial statements only to the extent of unrelated investors’ interests in the joint operation.
