Frontken Berhad Annual Report 2021

Frontken Corporation Berhad 200401012517 (651020-T) • A N N U A L R E P O R T 2 0 2 1 89 NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS (CONT’D) 3. SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES (CONT’D) Employee Benefits (i) Short-term Benefits Wages, salaries, paid annual leave and bonuses are measured on an undiscounted basis and are recognised in profit or loss in the period in which the associated services are rendered by employees of the Group. (ii) Defined Contribution Plans The Group’s contributions to defined contribution plans are recognised in profit or loss in the period to which they relate. Once the contributions have been paid, the Group has no further liability in respect of the defined contribution plans. (iii) Defined Benefit Plans The liability or asset recognised in the statements of financial position in respect of defined benefit plans is the present value of the defined benefit obligation at the reporting date less the fair value of plan assets. The present value of the defined benefit obligation is calculated using the projected unit credit method by independent actuaries annually, determined by discounting the estimated future benefits that employees have earned in the current and prior periods, using market yields of private corporate debt securities which have currency and terms to maturity approximating the terms of the related obligation. The Group determines the net interest expense or income on the net defined liability or asset for the period by applying the discount rate used to measure the defined benefit obligation at the beginning of the annual reporting period to the then net defined benefit liability or asset, taking into account any changes in the net defined benefit liability or asset during the period as a result of contributions and benefit payments. The net interest expense or income is recognised in profit or loss under the staff costs. Remeasurement gains and losses arising from experience adjustments and changes in actuarial assumptions are recognised in the period in which they occur, directly in other comprehensive income and will not be reclassified to profit or loss. When the benefits of a plan are changed or when a plan is curtailed, the resulting change in benefit that relates to past service or the gain or loss on curtailment is recognised immediately in profit or loss. The Group recognises gains or losses on the settlement of a defined benefit plan when the settlement occurs. Basis of Consolidation The consolidated financial statements include the financial statements of the Company and its subsidiaries made up to the end of the reporting period. Subsidiaries are entities (including structured entities, if any) controlled by the Group. The Group controls an entity when the Group is exposed to, or has rights to, variable returns from its involvement with the entity and has the ability to affect those returns through its power over the entity. Potential voting rights are considered when assessing control only when such rights are substantive. The Group also considers it has de facto power over an investee when, despite not having the majority of voting rights, it has the current ability to direct the activities of the investee that significantly affect the investee’s return.
