He was the first Managing Director of DGB until his retirement on 31 January 2020. He rejoined DGB on 14 September 2022 as the Executive Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and subsequently redesignated as Executive Chairman on 29 September 2022. Datuk Haji Abu Hanifah graduated from University Malaya with an Honours Degree in Economics and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Certified Public Accountant in 1976. He was a practising accountant for more than 20 years and was the Chairman and Managing Partner of Ernst & Whinney/Einst & Young for 9 years. He also served as the President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) in 1987 and led the Institute for 13 years until 2000. Datuk Haji Abu Hanifah sits on the Board of Titiwangsa Foundation. Previously, he had also served on the boards of several public listed companies, government-linked companies and government committees.
