He was conferred an honorary doctorate by the University of Salford, United Kingdom, in 1999 and an honorary doctorate by the National Defence University of Malaysia in October 2012. Prior to his entry into the corporate world, General Tun (Dr) Mohamed Hashim was the Chief of Defence Forces of the Malaysian Armed Forces where he chalked up 40 years of dedicated service. During his tenure at the Malaysian Armed Forces, he had initiated the reorganisation and modernisation of the Army. He is the Chairman of Fusang Exchange Ltd and he also sits on the Board of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS Malaysia) – a Malaysian think tank responsible for formulating policies and conducting research for national and international issues.
